When we set out to create a Ketogenic Raw Dog Food, we were told: don't.
We heard...
"It will be very difficult. People don't know what a Ketogenic diet is."
"Just make a good enough raw food."
Despite what we were told, we decided to do something no one else had yet dared to do: create a complete line of human-grade raw dog food with a Ketogenic formulation and metabolic integrity.
Why?
After doing intensive scientific research into rising canine disease rates, partnering with a canine nutrition specialist on formulation, connecting with animal experts, and digging for the truth about dog nutrition, we realized something.
We realized that the way we feed our dogs is an emergency situation linked to rising disease rates.
We realized that someone had to do something.
We decided: we'll do something.
THE CHALLENGES OF CRAFTING RAW, KETOGENIC DOG FOOD
If we're being honest, the work that we do at Bones & Co. is challenging but so worth it.
Other dog food companies have stayed away from creating a Ketogenic dog food for a few reasons:
1. Fat: Healthy fat is a core ingredient in our food. Fat is a premium ingredient and it's expensive. Our food wouldn't be Keto if it didn't contain a 1:1 ratio of healthy fats: high-quality protein + nutrients. This premium ingredient makes the food more expensive.
2. It's risky: Since Ketogenic food for dogs is not a mainstream topic, we have to be educators and pioneers in the field in order to share our product with people.
Note: Feeding dogs a Ketogenic diet is not a new idea. It hasn't become a popular idea because the topic is COMPLEX.
We're not afraid to break the status quo in order to actually help dogs live longer, better lives.
3. People think it's a fad: The words "Ketogenic" or "Ketosis" have been thrown around as buzzwords, especially in relation to human nutrition.
The fact is, Keto is not a fad: we've known about it for almost 100 years and it has been used to fight metabolic diseases like epilepsy, cancer, and diabetes in both humans and dogs.
As a company, we have to battle against misinformation about what a Ketogenic diet is and what a raw food diet is at the same time.
We fight this battle for one reason, and one reason only.
Our reason has four paws, one wet nose, and a loving heart. Our reason is dog.

Even though Ketogenic raw dog food is not a popular or mainstream idea, we don't care. We craft Ketogenic dog food because we believe it's the right way to feed our dogs.
